Barry County, Missouri #24001

Greetings CRA brothers and sisters.

Let me begin by saying Thank You to Rick Cameron for asking me to serve as the newsletter correspondent for the Barry County Chapter. I am humbled and excited to be able to share news from our chapter and I look forward to working with all of you who are involved with the newsletter.

The weather was also uncooperative this spring and forced us to cancel a planned clean-up at Loftin Hole, a local campground/boat launch/ swimming beach just down the road from HQ. We pick up trash in this area 2-3 times a year as part of our commitment to community betterment and outreach. We were able to get together in August for a clean-up on the section of highway 39 that Our chapter sponsors as part of the Missouri DOT’s “Keep Missouri Beautiful” program.

2020 has been full of challenges for our chapter as many of us were dealing with Covid restrictions. After skipping a number of meetings from January forward, we were also forced to cancel the Shell Knob City Easter Egg hunt that we had just begun hosting last year. Hopefully things will be back to some kind of normal by next year so that we can resume our commitment.

Turning to the personal, as I’m sure many of you are aware, Our chapter Chaplain, Tim Frazier, was involved in a serious car accident in April. His vehicle was totaled, but Tim survived. He is still recovering from multiple injuries and the healing process is slow, but I’m happy to report that his sense of humor is intact.

Rita Cameron also had a bit of a scare recently. Rita had a minor car accident while driving home from work late at night. She walked away from the accident with minor bumps and bruises. The truck had minor damage until the tow truck showed up and, let’s just say, the Wrecker lived up to its name rendering it a total loss. Rick is temporarily using the truck as a rather unique driveway marker at HQ.

And finally, Galen Boley; father of JP Boley, Barry County Chapter Vice President and CRA National Sergeant at Arms, lost his battle with cancer in August. A celebration of life was held on August 12th with many friends and family members in attendance.

Respectfully submitted,

Melanie Taylor
